About GatewayCompare
An independent directory of payment service providers, built on the idea that a comparison is only worth reading if the numbers in it are real and you can check where they came from.
The problem
Payment provider comparisons are mostly written by people selling payment processing. The ones that aren't tend to store fees as marketing text — “from 1.4%”, “Interchange++”, “contact for pricing” — which cannot be sorted, compared, or modelled against your actual volume. You end up with a list of names and no way to tell which is cheaper for you specifically.
What we do differently
- Numeric fees. Percentages stored as basis points, fixed fees as minor units. Sortable, comparable, and usable in a cost model.
- A citation on every number. Source URL and read date. No source, no number — the page says “Not published” instead.
- Licence data from the registers themselves. Europe, the UK, the US and Asia-Pacific. Every record links to the regulator's own entry.
- A public change ledger. Every fee and coverage change, dated. If a provider raises a price, it is on the record.
- Decline data, not just accept data. Especially for higher-risk industries, where knowing who will turn you down saves more time than another name on a shortlist.
Where we are today
How we make money
Referral commissions, clearly labelled sponsored placement, and paid tiers on the API. Free for merchants, always. None of it touches rankings — see the full disclosure and the methodology.
Getting things wrong
We will. Every profile has a report link that needs no account, every correction is dated and published, and providers can claim their listing to maintain their own data. Tell us when something is wrong.
